Obsidian is a volcanic glass, it was formed when lava of specific mineral composition, rapidly cooled.
It has a black colour but will look brownish when held against the light, which will also reveal mineral inclusions and fractures.
Obsidian has been used to produce tools and weapons during the stone age, due to its sharp edges while today, it is commonly used for jewelry and art.
