Fascinating Diversity: Skye Marble from the Isle of Skye
Skye Marble originates from the Scottish Isle of Skye, located in the Inner Hebrides, where it is extracted from a small quarry in the shadow of the Cuillin Hills.
Only about 1 kilogram out of 1000 kilograms of mined material is suitable for jewelry making. These rare, gem quality pieces are carefully collected and selected by hand.
Formed approximately 500 million years ago, this marble exhibits an impressive variety of colors. Blue, yellow, and pink shades are especially rare and highly sought after. Most pieces of Skye Marble consist of a mix of green or black serpentinite, combined with white or gray limestone. This limestone was formed over millions of years from the remnants of shells and corals.
Skye Marble is said to possess a unique radiance and a calming effect—qualities that perfectly reflect the character of the island.
The Isle of Skye is surrounded by numerous myths and is also known as the "Misty Isle" as its rugged mountains and cliffs are often enveloped in dense fog, creating a truly special and mystical atmosphere.
