Aragonite / Calcite stalactite pendant - handmade

Stone pendant made of a stalactite/calcareous sinter with a sterling silver eyelet and a dyed silk ribbon.

Stalactites and stalactites form in caves and crevices when lime-rich groundwater trickles through the cave ceiling. The water evaporates, and the lime and other minerals settle, forming stalactites over millennia.
The cross-section of a stalactite often reveals clearly visible growth bands. The varying colors of calcareous sinter are caused by different minerals such as iron and manganese.
The particularly well-defined growth stripes make the stalactites a wonderful gemstone that is particularly suitable as a pendant.
