Old Willow Porcelain
The porcelain with the "Old Willow" pattern is probably the best known and most popular porcelain in Great Britain and has been produced there since the 19th century.
The motif is based on an old love story of a peasant boy and a princess. The two fell in love but the king forbade a wedding.
He had a high wall built around the palace to separate the two and arranged a marriage for the princess with a duke.
When the Duke arrived for the wedding day, he discovered that the two had already fled together and sent his soldiers after them.
The gods took pity on the lovers and turned them into doves, so they could escape their pursuers.
