Estremoz marble is a well known natural stone from the Alentejo region in Portugal. Known for its great colours, ranging from soft pink to beige, it also occasionally reveals white or deep gray patterns with fine veining.
Formed over 300 million years ago through the metamorphosis of ancient limestone sediments, Estremoz marble has been used for art and architectural purposes since antiquity. The Romans especially prized this stone, using it for columns, sculptures, and structural ornaments and traces of their craftsmanship can still be found in the historic quarries today.
