Hand-polished end piece of a fossil snail of the genus Trochactaeon.
This snail once lived on the bottom of a prehistoric sea about 80 million years ago. After the snail died, it sank into the mud of the seafloor and over time became this wonderful fossil.
This fossil is called Gosau snail, named after the site of Gosau am Dachstein in Austria, because the place is known for its fossil finds on the so-called snail wall.
The Schneckenwand is a piece of the former seabed, which contains a particularly large number of fossils of snails, corals and mussels and was raised to over 1,200 m above sea level by the uplift of the Alps.
Note: This piece of jewelry was made from a natural fossil and may have minor cracks or holes, as nothing in nature is perfect.
