Poplars grow in North America as well as in Europe and Asia. They are often found along riverbanks and have been cultivated for their timber since ancient times.
Poplar wood is processed into a variety of products, the most famous of which is probably the painting of the Mona Lisa, which was painted on a poplar wood panel.
