Scottish Highland Marble Scottish Highland Marble is a mixture of limestone and serpentinite, formed from marine sediment more than 800 million years ago. The marble is quarried by hand in Scotland from remote quarries in the Highlands, and its exact locations are unknown to very few people. In Scotland, Highland marble is known as a lucky stone. On some beaches, the green stones can be found washed up by the sea, and according to legend, local fishermen never go to sea without their lucky stone in their pockets.
