Schwaz Dolomite trailer

This stone pendant is a Schwaz Dolomite which gets its name from its location, as this rock is mainly found in Schwaz in Austria.
The fahlerz ore contained in the Schwaz dolomite was formerly used to extract copper and silver, and the Schwaz silver mine was the largest and most productive silver mine in the world in the late Middle Ages.
Due to these ore deposits, the town of Schwaz grew into the largest mining metropolis in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries and formed the financial basis for the empire of the Habsburg dynasty.

In addition to the black Fahler ore, the Schwaz dolomite also contains malachite and azurite. These are formed during the weathering of the copper contained in the Fahler ore.
